Heavy-duty pickup trucks like the 2025 Ram HD are built to handle serious tasks, boasting a rugged chassis and powerful powertrains designed to tow heavy trailers and carry substantial loads. The standard 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 remains unchanged from the previous model year, while the optional Cummins diesel inline-six has been upgraded to deliver 430 horsepower and is now paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The 2025 Ram 2500 / 3500 starts at $47,560, with prices reaching up to $75,160 depending on trim level and options.
Most buyers of the Ram HD opt for the diesel engine, but the standard 405-hp 6.4-liter gas engine offers plenty of power, even for the 3500 model.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2025 Ram HD offers three engine choices. The standard engine in all models is a 405-hp 6.4-liter V-8 producing 429 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the sole option in the Power Wagon, which comes with four-wheel drive only. Other models are available with the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six, offered with either rear- or four-wheel drive. The diesel engine produces 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. Both the gas and diesel engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Towing and Payload Capacity
The maximum towing capacity of the 2025 Ram 3500 reaches 36,610 pounds when equipped with the diesel engine. It also has a maximum payload capacity of 7,590 pounds, which requires the standard gas engine. Towing and payload figures for the 2500 model have not yet been released, but we will update this article once that information becomes available.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA does not estimate fuel economy for commercial vehicles like the Ram 2500 and 3500 due to their Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR) exceeding 8,500 pounds. In our real-world testing, a Ram 3500 with the high-output Cummins diesel engine, four-wheel drive, and a dual-rear-wheel axle achieved 16 mpg on our 75-mph highway route. The less powerful 370-hp diesel engine in the four-wheel-drive Crew Cab 2500 returned slightly better highway fuel economy at 18 mpg.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
As is common with pickups, the Ram’s variety of trim levels and cab configurations result in a wide range of interior features, materials, and space. The truck is available with a single cab, a spacious four-door Crew Cab, and the expansive Mega Cab, which boasts the largest rear seat in its class. The Longhorn trim offers even more luxury, with wood and gold trim on the dashboard and doors, along with a Longhorn logo branded into the glovebox.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Ram equips its heavy-duty trucks with cutting-edge tech, including an intuitive infotainment system that rivals those in luxury sedans and SUVs. The system is easy to navigate, with quick responses to user inputs, and the 8.4-inch touchscreen is large and well-positioned. A larger 12.0-inch touchscreen and an even bigger 14.5-inch option are available, giving the interior a more high-tech look and feel. Additionally, a 10.3-inch passenger display is available. The truck also features five USB ports and up to three 115-volt outlets that can deliver up to 400 watts to power or charge tools.
