The Toyota bZ4X debuted in 2023 to a lukewarm reception. However, Toyota has since taken steps to enhance the appeal of its electric SUV, first by adding new equipment for 2024 and now by introducing a significant price reduction for 2025. While these updates have improved the model, now even more changes have been announced for the European market.
A More Powerful bZ4X
The latest updates include two upgraded electric motors that incorporate silicon carbide semiconductors, allowing for increased power output. The single-motor, front-wheel-drive version now delivers either 164 or 211 horsepower, depending on the battery size. For comparison, the current FWD model in the U.S. produces 201 horsepower. Meanwhile, the dual-motor variant receives a notable power boost, reaching 337 horsepower—up from the 215 horsepower of the U.S. model.

Enhanced Battery Options
Unlike the U.S. version, which offers two battery packs of nearly identical size (63.4 kWh and 65.5 kWh), the European model is shifting toward greater differentiation. The smaller battery is estimated to provide a usable capacity of 51.9 kWh, while the larger pack is expected to offer 65.8 kWh.
Faster Charging and Improved Efficiency
Level 2 AC charging sees a major improvement with the introduction of an 11-kW onboard charger and an optional 22-kW unit, both of which surpass the current 6.6-kW charger in the U.S. model. While DC fast charging remains capped at 150 kW, a newly implemented battery pre-conditioning system is expected to enhance charging speed, particularly in cold weather.

Refreshed Styling and Interior Upgrades
Toyota has made subtle exterior design refinements, while inside, the bZ4X now features a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen, replacing the previous 12.3-inch unit. The updated center console includes dual wireless charging pads, though the dashboard retains its distinctive instrument-screen placement. Additionally, Toyota claims improvements in driving dynamics and noise reduction.
At present, there is no confirmation on when these updates will make their way to the U.S. market. However, in Europe, the revised bZ4X is set to go on sale in the coming months.
