For 2025, the Crown introduces a new Nightshade trim, which replaces the standard chrome accents with blacked-out exterior details. This trim is available exclusively in two shades: Storm Cloud (a deep blue-gray) and Black, both of which feature a black leather interior and matte black 21-inch wheels. Other updates include newly standard heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The Platinum trim now also includes a head-up display.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The 2025 Toyota Crown starts at $42,535 and tops out at $56,085, depending on trim and optional features.
- XLE – $42,535
- Limited – $47,045
- Nightshade – $49,860
- Platinum – $56,085
All four trims offer a premium experience uncommon among Toyota sedans, but the Platinum trim stands out with its more potent Hybrid Max powertrain. This model not only enhances performance but also places the Crown in close competition with mid-size luxury vehicles like the Lexus ES.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Every Toyota Crown comes equipped with a hybrid powertrain, though the range-topping Platinum trim is the only one to feature Toyota’s Hybrid Max system. This setup pairs a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor on the rear axle, producing a total of 340 horsepower.
The XLE, Limited, and Nightshade models are powered by a 236-hp hybrid system, which consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and three electric motors. The Platinum trim uses a six-speed automatic transmission, whereas the other models feature a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All-wheel drive is standard across the lineup.
The Crown prioritizes ride comfort over sharp handling, though the Platinum trim’s adaptive dampers offer a sportier feel compared to the softer suspension of the lower trims.
0–60 MPH Acceleration
The base hybrid powertrain delivers adequate acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 7.2 seconds in testing. The Platinum trim, thanks to its more powerful hybrid system, is significantly quicker, achieving 0–60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA estimates for the base hybrid powertrain are 42 mpg city and 41 mpg highway, while the Platinum trim’s Hybrid Max system is rated at 29 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. During real-world testing, the Crown Limited matched its EPA estimate of 42 mpg on the highway, while a 2024 Platinum model returned 32 mpg, precisely as expected.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Crown’s interior exudes an upscale feel, offering an upgrade for those transitioning from the Avalon. Higher trims, particularly the Limited and Platinum, enhance the experience with leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats.
The raised seating position is closer to that of a compact SUV rather than a traditional sedan, which could appeal to those looking for a luxury alternative that offers a commanding view of the road.
All trims come equipped with:
- Eight-way power-adjustable front seats with heating
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Ambient interior lighting
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Crown features a 12.3-inch touchscreen across all trims, running Toyota’s latest, more intuitive software interface. Standard connectivity options include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a wireless smartphone charging pad, onboard Wi-Fi, and USB-C ports.
- Base XLE trim: Six-speaker audio system
- Limited and Platinum trims: Upgraded 11-speaker JBL system
Despite the upgrade, the JBL system was underwhelming in testing, lacking the depth and richness found in rival luxury sedans.
