Forget about your Wrangler, Bronco, and even 4Runner—it’s time to focus on the new Tacoma TRD Pro. While Toyota kept the previous model fresh with a new signature color each year, the 2024 version ushers in major changes.
For many enthusiasts, the Tacoma TRD Pro is the ultimate choice, but it’s worth considering rivals like the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, Ford Ranger Raptor, and GMC Canyon AT4X to get a comprehensive view of the midsize off-road pickup segment.
Is the Tacoma TRD Pro a Hybrid?
Rest assured, efficiency takes a backseat to power and performance. The Tacoma TRD Pro comes standard with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, ensuring ample power for tackling mud, sand, and rugged trails.
This setup combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque—a significant upgrade of 48 hp and 200 lb-ft over the previous V6.
Four-wheel drive is standard, along with an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A TRD intake and cat-back exhaust provide an aggressive growl to complement its performance.

TRD Pro Off-Road Capability
The Tacoma TRD Pro lives up to its name, boasting hardware designed for serious off-roading. It features Fox 2.5-inch QS3 adjustable internal bypass shocks with remote reservoirs and rear internal floating piston bump stops.
Standard equipment includes red forged aluminum TRD front upper control arms, 18-inch wheels, and 33-inch all-terrain tires. The TRD Pro rides 2 inches higher at the front and 1.5 inches higher at the rear than the SR5 trim, with a 3-inch wider stance. An automatic limited-slip differential and a locking rear differential round out its off-road toolkit.
Tacoma TRD Pro Bed, Towing, and Hauling
All Tacoma TRD Pro models come with a five-foot bed measuring just over 60 inches. The maximum towing capacity is 6,000 pounds, with a payload limit of approximately 1,400 pounds.

Safety Features
As part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite, the Tacoma TRD Pro includes a variety of driver-assist features, such as:
- Front automatic emergency braking.
- Automatic high beams.
- Lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist.
- Adaptive cruise control.
Technology
The 2025 Tacoma TRD Pro takes a massive leap forward in technology compared to its predecessor. A 14.0-inch center touchscreen (up from 8.0 inches) with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard, as is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
A multi-terrain monitor camera system enhances off-road visibility, and additional trail-ready tech includes crawl control, hill descent control, and selectable off-road modes such as Dirt, Sand, Mud, Snow, Rock, and Auto.
Entertainment is upgraded with a 10-speaker JBL audio system, including a detachable, dash-mounted speaker perfect for campsite use. The truck bed offers power outlets, including 12-volt, USB (A and C), and a 120-volt household outlet capable of delivering 2,400 watts. For 2025, buyers can also opt for up to four pre-wired auxiliary switches.
