Volvo is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the compact EX30 SUV, blending sleek styling with an advanced technology platform. While a single-motor version is in the pipeline, only the dual-motor model is currently available in the U.S. On the bright side, Volvo claims that the 422-horsepower all-wheel-drive EX30 is its fastest-accelerating vehicle to date.
Equipped with a 64.0-kWh battery, it offers a driving range of up to 261 miles per charge. The EX30 stands out with striking LED lighting elements and Volvo’s renowned ergonomic bucket seats, but its cabin places style at the forefront while incorporating sustainable materials. Volvo has opted for recycled upholstery and partnered with carbon-neutral suppliers to enhance the SUV’s eco-friendliness.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The 2025 Volvo EX30 starts at $46,195, with the price rising to $47,895 depending on trim and options.
Recommended Trims:
- Plus Twin Motor – $46,195
- Ultra Twin Motor – $47,895

Although the more affordable single-motor EX30 is delayed, the dual-motor version delivers impressive speed with only a slight trade-off in range. With the single-motor model temporarily off the table, we recommend the Plus trim, which offers a strong balance of features, including a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wheels, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The Single Motor Extended Range model features a 268-horsepower electric motor mounted on the rear axle, providing solid acceleration. However, performance enthusiasts may gravitate toward the 442-horsepower Twin Motor Performance model, which delivers a more exhilarating drive. Both models provide a firm ride on 19-inch wheels, but the EX30’s chassis remains well-balanced and responsive on winding roads.
0–60 MPH Performance
- Single Motor model – Estimated 5.1 seconds
- Twin Motor model – Estimated 3.4 seconds
Volvo’s estimates align with our initial driving impressions from a test session in Barcelona. The rear-wheel-drive Single Motor version isn’t as quick but remains punchy enough for urban settings.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life
Every EX30 is equipped with a 64.0-kWh battery pack. According to EPA estimates:
- Rear-wheel-drive models offer up to 261 miles per charge.
- All-wheel-drive models provide up to 253 miles per charge.
The EX30 supports DC fast charging at a peak rate of 153 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes on a compatible charger.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The EX30’s cabin integrates recycled materials to reduce its environmental impact. For example:
- One upholstery option repurposes denim waste.
- Another uses flax-based textiles.
- A third option features a wool alternative crafted from recycled polyester.
Maintaining Volvo’s signature minimalist aesthetic, the EX30 introduces unique functional elements. The glovebox is positioned in the center of the dashboard beneath the infotainment screen for easier driver access, while the cupholders can fold away to maximize space.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Taking inspiration from Tesla, the EX30 utilizes a single vertically oriented 12.3-inch touchscreen that serves as both an infotainment hub and a digital gauge cluster. The interface is an updated version of Volvo’s Google-based system, featuring:
- Google Maps for navigation
- Wireless Apple CarPlay
Notably, Volvo has replaced traditional speakers with a dashboard-mounted sound bar, delivering immersive audio in a streamlined design.
