The second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT sports car leaves little to be desired. While shedding some weight might be beneficial, the latest iteration compensates for its added mass with a larger footprint, improved on-road comfort, all-wheel drive, and the inclusion of a back seat. Despite the increase in weight, performance remains virtually unaffected—the GT63 variant we recently tested rockets from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and continues to excel on the track.
Under the hood, the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 remains, working in tandem with a rear-mounted electric motor and a nine-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission. The engine alone delivers 630 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, but when combined with the electric motor, total output soars to an astonishing 831 hp and 1,032 lb-ft. The car comes standard with all-wheel drive and the AMG Ride Control+ suspension system.

According to Mercedes, the sedan sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 197 mph, electronically limited. Bringing all that power to a stop is a set of standard carbon-ceramic brakes—six-piston calipers clamp down on 16.5-inch front discs, while the rear features single-piston calipers with 15.0-inch rotors.
The electric motor provides a continuous 94 horsepower but can briefly boost output to 201 hp for 10-second intervals. It is paired with a 6.1-kilowatt-hour battery (4.8 kWh usable), allowing the car to reach speeds of up to 87 mph in electric mode. However, Mercedes has not disclosed the EV range, emphasizing that the battery is engineered for performance rather than efficiency—so don’t expect significant fuel savings.

The latest design updates, first revealed over a year ago, are present on the U.S.-bound model, featuring a subtly reworked front fascia and other minor revisions. Inside, the car comes equipped with the newest MBUX software and a standard AMG Performance steering wheel.
Pricing details remain under wraps, but as the on-sale date approaches, more information should become available. Given its performance and luxury features, a starting price near $200,000 wouldn’t be surprising.
