Mercedes-AMG outfit LEON Racing has confirmed that Togo Suganami will be rejoining the team for the upcoming SUPER GT season.
Suganami, who has competed with Tsuchiya Engineering for the past two seasons, will once again partner with Naoya Gamou in the K2 R&D-operated, Bridgestone-equipped No. 65 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. This marks a reunion of the driver lineup that represented the team from late 2019 through 2021.
He takes over from Takuro Shinohara, who has raced alongside Gamou for the past three seasons. The duo secured a runner-up finish in last year’s GT300 championship standings.

Team principal Haruki Kurosawa shared his thoughts on the move: “Suganami has delivered strong performances in other categories and demonstrated impressive speed. I have high expectations for him and Gamou, who has established himself as the team’s reliable ‘ace’ driver.
“Last season, we finished second in the championship. We also finished second in 2017, and the following year, we claimed the title. With that in mind, we are determined to make this season ‘a year of winning’!”

Expressing his excitement, Suganami stated: “I’m very happy to be returning to K2 R&D LEON Racing, the team where I made my SUPER GT debut.
“The team was in fantastic form last season and secured second place in the standings. I will give my all to ensure that momentum continues and contribute to the team’s success.”
Meanwhile, Toyota confirmed last month that the Tsuchiya Engineering Toyota GR Supra will be piloted this season by Takamitsu Matsui and Kimiya Sato. Sato returns to a full-time role in the No. 25 car, taking over from Suganami.
