The Kia Concept EV2 exudes the charm of an adorable puppy we’d love to bring home. Unfortunately, it seems we’d have to sneak it out of the adoption center since its compact size likely means it won’t be making its way to the U.S. That said, a production version of this pint-sized electric SUV is expected to launch in other markets sometime in 2026.
The EV2 Is Kia’s Most Compact EV Yet
Think of the EV2 concept as Kia’s take on the Hyundai Inster, another small and quirky crossover that also won’t be hitting American shores. While Kia hasn’t shared any specifics about the EV2’s electric powertrain, it’s reasonable to assume that its production version will take cues from the Inster’s setup. The Inster tops out at 113 horsepower and 108 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the larger (relatively speaking) 49.0-kWh battery, which provides an estimated 187-mile range.

Compact in Size, Big on Design
The EV2 may be Kia’s smallest electric vehicle, but its design language aligns with its larger siblings. Its vertical front lighting elements mirror those found on the upcoming EV4 sedan and the three-row EV9 SUV. Kia has also incorporated its so-called “Star Map” lighting—essentially a constellation of illuminated specks on the car’s smooth front panel. The geometric shapes extending to the glass and wheel arches further enhance the cohesive design. However, a few features set the EV2 apart from the rest of Kia’s EV lineup, most notably its missing center pillar and the addition of rear-hinged back doors (commonly referred to as coach doors). While it’s unlikely these elements will carry over to production, they certainly add to the concept’s cool factor.
A Playful and Versatile Interior
The Concept EV2’s interior might just be its most intriguing feature. To get straight to the point—we have a soft spot for front bench seats, and this Kia is tugging at our heartstrings. Adding to its charm, the front bench is mounted on a track, allowing it to slide backward while the rear seats fold away. This creates an open space where passengers can stretch out or even sit directly on the flat floor. Kia claims this setup is possible, but whether it’s comfortable for more than one person over six feet tall remains to be seen.

Inside, the dashboard houses a tablet-style display, much like those found in many of Kia’s current models. The concept also sports a uniquely shaped steering wheel that appears as if it melted in an oven. The dashboard material, reminiscent of what’s seen in the BMW iX, adds a premium touch, while a distinctive metal surface spans its lower portion. Another quirky detail? The EV2’s speakers are portable, meaning spontaneous car karaoke sessions could be a reality.
Perhaps the most intriguing feature is the message lighting system, which allows drivers to display text through the windows. However, we have to wonder if a message like “Hey, Kia, why don’t you bring cool cars like the EV2 to America?” would even fit.
