California-based electric vehicle startup Telo has just unveiled a functional prototype of its MT1 mini-truck at a live event in Los Angeles. This milestone signals that the company is steadily progressing toward production and bringing its sensibly sized vehicles closer to hitting the road.
Last June, Telo announced a partnership with California-based manufacturer Aria Group to produce its initial batch of road-ready prototypes. Now, the preproduction model has made its debut in a video presented at the event before being driven into the venue, allowing attendees to get an up-close look.
Eventgoers had the opportunity to experience the MT1’s well-designed interior, which accommodates five passengers. A standout feature is the folding midgate, enabling the truck bed to fit an 8-foot (2.4-meter) surfboard or a standard 4×8 plywood sheet.

Welcome to The Motoring Club!
Telo has raised approximately $6.8 million over the past few years to develop a compact yet high-performance electric truck. The MT1 is designed with the footprint of a Mini Cooper SE while offering the practicality of a full-size truck bed. So far, the company has secured more than 5,000 pre-orders, translating to over $250 million in customer commitments.
Despite its compact dimensions, Telo promises a full-size truck experience with its small electric pickup, offering four-wheel drive and impressive performance. The base model, priced at $41,520, features a single-motor, two-wheel-drive setup with 300 horsepower and an estimated range of 260 miles (418 km). For those seeking more power, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version delivers 500 horsepower and a long-range battery capable of 350 miles (563 km), available for just under $50,000.
With the prototype now on the road, Telo plans to shift its focus to safety testing as it prepares for homologation.
Additionally, the company recently showcased optional solar panels, which can be installed on the cab roof, tonneau cover, or camper shell. Each of these panels has the potential to provide an additional 12-15 miles (19-24 km) of range per day.
Telo intends to continue rigorous safety and durability testing before undergoing homologation inspections, anticipated to take place “sometime next [US] winter.” This timeline suggests that customer deliveries are still at least a couple of years away.

Designed for Comfort and Versatility
The four-door MT1’s interior is crafted to comfortably seat five adults, ensuring a spacious and practical driving experience.
In the meantime, Telo is welcoming investors to support its ongoing progress. If the company can successfully bring the MT1 to market, it could offer a compelling choice for those seeking a versatile electric truck suited for both weekend adventures and everyday tasks.
