Another compact SUV enters the scene: meet the Omoda 7 PHEV. This latest model from the Chery-backed brand features the SHS (Super Hybrid System) powertrain, boasting a claimed total range of 745 miles. Of that figure, an estimated 56 miles are pure electric, making it about as green as Popeye’s favorite snack.
According to Omoda, the hybrid setup—which includes a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a battery, and an electric motor—delivers a claimed 44.5 percent thermal efficiency. It also produces a robust 345bhp and 387lb ft of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0–62mph in 8.5 seconds.
While Omoda has yet to reveal the exact size of the battery paired with the engine, it has confirmed that the system will support rapid charging. A quick top-up from 30 to 80 percent is expected to take just 20 minutes.
There are also a few interesting design elements to note. The front grille appears to be inspired by chain mail, sporting a pattern similar to what you might find on the background walls of popular streamers. Around the back, the taillights feature striking lightning bolt-shaped signatures. In terms of overall design, the Omoda 7 finds itself positioned between the existing ‘5’ and the upcoming ‘9’ models—less curvy than the former, but not as angular and boxy as the latter. It strikes a middle ground, a balance between the two. Who would’ve guessed?
Meanwhile, details about the interior remain scarce, as Omoda is keeping some information under wraps until deliveries of the 7 begin in August. However, expectations are that it will inherit the range-topping 5’s 20.5-inch combined infotainment display, a reverse camera, and dual-zone climate control. If so, features like heated front seats, smartphone integration, and a Sony sound system are also likely to make the list.
As for pricing, it remains unconfirmed, but it’s anticipated that the Omoda 7 will fall somewhere in the mid-£30k range. This would neatly place it between the E5 (£32k) and the 9 (£45k). And yes, buyers can also look forward to the appealing seven-year/100,000-mile warranty.
