Tesla Inc. has started hiring for its upcoming $200 million Megafactory being built near the Houston area. The Brookshire, Texas, location in Waller County represents a significant step in Tesla’s continued push into clean energy manufacturing within the state.
The Austin-based automaker posted more than 40 job openings for the new site this month, including roles for manufacturing engineers, welders and managers, according to Tesla’s website.
Situated roughly 35 miles west of Houston, the Brookshire facility is designed after Tesla’s Megafactory in Lathrop, California, where the company manufactures its large-scale “Megapack” batteries for grid-level energy storage.
During a commissioner’s court meeting on Wednesday, Waller County officials unanimously approved a tax abatement agreement with Tesla.

Tesla’s upcoming campus within the Empire West Business Park will feature two sizable buildings and more than $200 million in construction, automation, and robotics investments, according to county commissioners earlier this year.
The project is projected to employ at least 375 workers by the end of 2026, 750 by 2027, and 1,500 by 2028, according to a social media update from Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Over 10 years beginning in January 2026, the automaker anticipates paying more than $1 billion in total employee wages.
Musk further amplified the hiring announcement on social media this week, reposting updates that identified the Brookshire location as Tesla’s “third Megafactory,” complementing existing sites in California and Shanghai.
One post portrayed the facility as part of Tesla’s broader effort to grow its “Megapack empire,” emphasizing that the company is now producing more than 80 gigawatt hours annually.
