Honda has just unveiled its latest electric crossover, boasting an impressive 404-mile range, up to 469 horsepower, and a design unlike anything else in the brand’s lineup. Even the distinctive CR-Z never looked this bold. Best of all, it carries an affordable starting price of just $36,000.
However, there’s a catch—this exciting new model won’t be hitting U.S. roads. The Dongfeng Honda S7 is an exclusive offering for the Chinese market, providing a glimpse into what Honda is truly capable of in the electric vehicle space.
China’s EV market is packed with affordable electric cars, but Honda is positioning the S7 as a step above the budget segment. Its bold, edgy design sets it apart from the traditionally conservative styling of Honda models—perhaps with the exception of the Civic Type R.
The S7 is a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, while also challenging domestic rivals like the Xiaomi YU7, Li i8, Xpeng G6, and Onvo L90.

A High-Tech Interior Packed With Features
Aiming for the premium EV segment means the S7 must deliver top-tier technology and features, and Honda doesn’t disappoint. The cabin is anchored by a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display that dominates the dashboard. A compact digital instrument cluster sits high above the steering wheel, perfectly positioned for easy viewing.
Additional cutting-edge features include side cameras replacing traditional door mirrors, ambient lighting with 1,256 LEDs integrated into the interior trim, and an optional 16-speaker Bose audio system. The S7 also offers floor heating for quicker cabin warming and an adaptive suspension system for a smoother ride.

Dedicated EV Platform Delivers Long Range and Cold-Weather Performance
Built on Honda’s electric-only “W” platform, the S7 comes standard with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup, while an all-wheel-drive dual-motor variant is also available. The crossover’s 90-kWh battery provides an impressive 404-mile range for the 268-horsepower RWD model, though this figure is based on the optimistic CLTC cycle. An EPA estimate would likely be about 35% lower. Meanwhile, the more powerful 469-horsepower AWD variant offers a still-impressive 385-mile range. Honda claims the battery retains over 90% of its charge even in extreme cold, down to -22°F.
Spacious, Affordable, and Off-Limits to the U.S. Market
The S7’s range and performance specs make it an enticing prospect, and its dimensions further add to the appeal. At 187 inches long and 76 inches wide, it’s a compact crossover, yet it boasts a wheelbase longer than that of the Honda Pilot—suggesting a spacious and comfortable cabin.
Pricing for the Dongfeng Honda S7 starts at 259,900 yuan ($36,000), with the dual-motor version beginning at 309,900 yuan ($43,000). To sweeten the deal, Honda is offering early buyers special incentives, with the first 1,000 customers receiving “car purchase benefits” valued at up to 86,888 yuan ($12,000).
